For my second independent learning project I decided to make a podcast. To do this, I made an audio recording on GarageBand, added the photo and made it into a video using iMovie, and uploaded it to Youtube in order to add it to my blog. I had never used GarageBand or iMovie before and this is my first ever podcast. The podcast is done as if I am a high school government teacher that makes a weekly podcast to give educational tips to other government teachers. If the video below does not work you can find the video by following this link: ILP #2.
After I viewed your ILP, I looked more into The Federalist Papers. I read about how the Papers are a collection of 85 articles and essays (promoting the ratification of the US Constitution) written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and the lesser known John Jay. http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/ is a good website to learn more. Thanks for the info on this ILP!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, I love the federelist papers as a topic so I will definitely check it out. I am glad you were able to learn more about them and know about Madison and Jay, because many think that Alexander Hamilton wrote them all.
DeleteFederalist* whoops. This is why I am a Social Science major not an English Major.
DeleteYour light-hearted narration elicited a few chuckles. Well-written. And congrats on creating your first podcast, uploaded to YouTube for distribution.
ReplyDeleteProjects are my bread-and-butter. In fact, I'm writing an e-book on the subject. You have some great ideas in your podcast. Very insightful. I have one recommendation... use the campaign posters for some higher order learning activity. What higher order thinking (Bloom's) could they elicit from students when viewed collectively? Also, I like your best in show voting. But students may focus on the visual design. Instead, call it an "election" based on the campaign marketing, which will hopefully drive students to evaluate the poster messages to a greater degree. Visual design is still super important, though.
Well done!
The idea of having the posters be voted on as an election is brilliant. I too worried about it being just about design, but if they could actually give a campaign speech with their poster on why it deserves it, the educational aspect would shine through.
DeleteI think the students would elicit the higher order thinking techniques of application and evaluation. They would be judging each others projects and taking every aspect into consideration while also getting to understand how they would work in real world situations.
Good thinking. Never let information die with the project. Make the project elicit class thinking. Make individual efforts the spring-board for more instruction (or evaluation).
DeleteI enjoy how casual your podcast sounds. I really enjoyed listening to the information that you provided because of the way that you presented it. I think that you did a great job editing the audio. One suggestion that I might make is using a more appropriate photo. While I absolutely love how cute your dog is, the image doesn't exactly match the content.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, if I were to make a podcast for a class I would definitely not use an image of my dog. Regardless of his bow tie, he is still not exactly professional. Thank you for the comment on my editing, it was my first time ever.
DeleteCute "bow tie" remark. I agree with Brianna but left it to classmates to mention.
